Institute presentation
The Maastricht University (UM) stands out for its innovative education model, international character, and multidisciplinary approach to research and education. Thanks to its high-quality research and study programmes as well as a strong focus on social engagement, UM has quickly built up a solid reputation. Today it is considered one of the best young universities in the world. It is home to over 4,500 students and 1,600 staff (of which almost 30% come from abroad), 6 research schools and 42 research departments, and is also part of the Maastricht University Medical Centre.
The Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) stands for cutting edge research and education, and for rapidly incorporating the latest developments, insights, and methods into their programmes. Within the FeatureCloud consortium, Prof. Dr. Harald Schmidt leads WP8 “Testing and evaluation in clinical translation”. Together with the Clinical Trial Centre Maastricht, Prof. Schmidt’s group coordinates, for example, several clinical drug repurposing studies. Using already available anonymized datasets as well as ethically-approved data from such novel studies, his group will test and benchmark the usability of the federated data management approach of FeatureCloud.
