Institute presentation
The Medical University Graz (MUG) is located within Graz University Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals in Europe (2,300 beds), ranked no. 5 in Europe. MUG offers essentially all fields of medicine and teaches approx. 4000 students every year. The Institute of Medical Informatics, Statistics & Documentation is focused on interdisciplinary scientific problems, and emphasises on making health data accessible and usable for research, patient treatment, and education. This includes the development and evaluation of algorithms, software, and statistical methods – from data acquisition to data analysis.
The research group of Prof. Dr. Holzinger promotes a synergistic approach by integrating two areas, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) & Knowledge Discovery/Data Mining (KDD), and is therefore also called “Research Unit HCI-KDD”. The group’s goal is to augment human intelligence with artificial intelligence, and to support human learning with machine learning. Within the framework of FeatureCloud, MUG will coordinate WP4, meaning the research, design and development of novel federated machine learning techniques with the human-in-the-loop (doctor-in-the-loop) towards “privacy by design”.
